Privacy Policy
The short version: we collect what we need to run TariffIQ, we don't sell your data, and we use a small number of standard third-party services (Anthropic, Stripe, Beehiiv, Vercel) to operate. The full details are below.
1. Who we are
TariffIQ is an independent software product operated by Byron Walker. Contact: byronwalk3r@gmail.com.
2. What we collect
We collect only what's needed to provide the service:
- Email address — when you sign up for tariff alerts or create a paid account. Used only to send you the content you signed up for and account-related notifications.
- Product analysis inputs — the product descriptions, countries of origin, and import values you submit. Sent to Anthropic's Claude API to generate your analysis. Not stored long-term by us.
- Payment information — handled entirely by Stripe. We never see or store your card number; we only see a Stripe customer ID and subscription status.
- Usage analytics — basic page-view data via Vercel Analytics (no personal identifiers, no cross-site tracking). Helps us understand which pages people use.
- Server logs — IP address and request metadata for rate limiting, security, and abuse prevention. Retained for a short period and not used for marketing.
3. What we don't collect
- We don't use third-party advertising cookies.
- We don't sell or rent your data to anyone, ever.
- We don't share your product descriptions or analysis history with third parties beyond the AI provider needed to generate the analysis itself.
4. Third-party services we use
TariffIQ runs on a small number of standard services. Each has its own privacy policy:
- Anthropic (Claude API) — receives your product analysis input to generate the tariff report. Anthropic's privacy policy.
- Stripe — processes payments. Stripe's privacy policy.
- Beehiiv — handles our email list. Beehiiv's privacy policy.
- Vercel — hosts the site and runs basic analytics. Vercel's privacy policy.
5. Cookies
We use a minimal amount of browser storage to remember things like whether you've used your free analysis already. We don't use third-party tracking cookies. If you clear your browser data, that state is cleared too.
6. Your rights
You can request a copy of any data we hold about you, or request that we delete it, by emailing byronwalk3r@gmail.com. If you're in the EU/UK, you have additional rights under GDPR; in California, under CCPA. We honor both.
If you're on our email list, you can unsubscribe at any time using the link at the bottom of every email.
7. Data retention
We retain account and subscription data for as long as you're a customer. After you cancel, we keep transactional records for the period required by law (typically 7 years for financial records) and delete the rest. Server logs are retained for up to 90 days.
8. Security
We use industry-standard practices: HTTPS everywhere, API keys stored only in server environments, no card data ever stored on our side. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to make this one solid.
9. Children
TariffIQ is a B2B product not intended for anyone under 18. We don't knowingly collect data from minors.
10. Changes to this policy
If we make material changes, we'll update the "Last updated" date at the top and, for substantial changes, notify subscribers via email. The current version is always at gettariffiq.com/privacy.
